About this card

The American Express Business Green Rewards Card receives an overall rating of 1.6 out of 5.0, placing it firmly in the 'Poor' category. This assessment is predominantly driven by its consistently very low performance in critical areas: Rewards (1.2/5.0), APR (1.5/5.0), and Fees (1.5/5.0). The card's core value proposition is severely undermined by its $95 annual fee, which is exceptionally difficult to justify given the extremely meager ongoing rewards rate of just 1X Membership Rewards point on most purchases and a limited 2X on AmexTravel.com bookings. This pales in comparison to many competitors, including other American Express business cards that offer significantly better earning potential, often with no annual fee. Furthermore, the absence of an introductory APR period combined with a high regular variable APR (up to 28.49%) makes it a very costly option for businesses that may need to carry a balance, eroding any potential benefits. While the card benefits from the robust reputation of American Express as an issuer (Reputation Rating: 2.4) and access to the valuable Membership Rewards program, these advantages are severely overshadowed by the card's outdated structure and uncompetitive terms. The sign-up bonus of 15,000 Membership Rewards points (rated 3.0) provides some initial value, but it is insufficient to offset the ongoing costs and weak earning potential. Features like 'Pay Over Time' and 'No Preset Spending Limit' offer some flexibility, but they do not compensate for the card's fundamental weaknesses. Ultimately, this card struggles to provide compelling value for its target audience when numerous superior alternatives are readily available in the market.

  • No Preset Spending Limit means the spending limit is flexible. Unlike a traditional card with a set limit, the amount you can spend adapts based on factors such as your purchase, payment, and credit history. In certain instances, we may assign a specific spending limit to a Card Member's account. This can be due to a variety of factors such as credit score, past due payments with us or other creditors, or high balances on revolving credit accounts. If a Preset Spending Limit is placed on your account, we will notify you, tell you why, and explain how it impacts how much you can spend.
