Amex Resy Credit: New Badge, More Restaurants, No Devaluation
Recent language on Resy regarding an "eligible badge" caused concern about your Amex Resy credit. However, this change is actually good news: it brings more clarity and expands your dining options, not a devaluation.

If you’re an American Express cardholder who enjoys dining out, you might have seen some chatter online about changes to the popular Amex Resy credit. New language on the Resy website about an "eligibility badge" sparked concern that the benefit might be getting harder to use. The good news is that American Express has confirmed this change is about making things clearer for cardholders, and the benefit is actually set to expand, not shrink.
New 'Resy Credit Eligible Badge' Explained
Starting Aug. 1, you'll notice a new feature on the Resy website: a "Resy credit eligible badge" will be displayed on the pages of participating restaurants. This badge is designed to take the guesswork out of using your card benefits by clearly showing where you can earn your statement credits.
This change applies to the dining credits offered on two popular cards:
- The American Express® Gold Card, which offers cardholders a statement credit of up to $50 biannually at U.S. Resy restaurants (enrollment required).
- The Platinum Card® from American Express, which provides a credit of up to $100 quarterly at U.S. Resy restaurants (enrollment required).
Essentially, this new badge is a tool for clarity, helping you confirm a restaurant’s eligibility before you even make a booking. You can learn more about how to maximize these perks in our guide to Resy statement credits.
Amex Confirms No Devaluation, More Restaurants Coming
When cardholders see changes to a valuable perk, it’s natural to worry about devaluation. However, American Express has clarified that there is no cause for alarm. In a statement, the company explained, "We have added a Resy Credit eligible badge to Resy venues pages to provide additional clarity to diners at the time of booking."
More importantly, Amex confirmed that they "have not removed Resy venues that are eligible today."
Even better, the number of eligible restaurants is actually set to grow. Amex noted that it will be "adding more eligible venues later this year when Tock venues become bookable on Resy." American Express, which owns Resy, also acquired Tock, a booking platform popular for unique culinary experiences and wineries. As Tock properties are integrated into Resy, cardholders will soon be able to use their Amex Resy credit at even more restaurants.
Conclusion: What Cardholders Should Do
For now, you don't need to change a thing. You can continue using your Amex Resy credit exactly as you have been. This update is not a devaluation and doesn't make the credit harder to use; in fact, it aims to make it easier to identify participating restaurants.
The most important step is to ensure you’re set up to receive the credit in the first place. This benefit requires a one-time Amex Resy credit enrollment through your American Express account, so double-check that you've activated it for your eligible card.
